Mkesha Safari is a tour operator with an office in Zanzibar, Tanzania. We run day tours around Zanzibar and safaris to Mikumi, Nyerere and Gombe national parks.

What we do

Our Zanzibar tours take you to Menai Bay on the Safari Blue trip, to Prison Island, Mnemba, Jozani Forest, the spice farms and the Salaam Cave. Our safaris fly from Zanzibar to Mikumi and Nyerere, go overland from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi, and start the Gombe chimpanzee trek in Kigoma.

How we work

Every tour shows its starting price, its itinerary and what is included. You ask, we confirm availability, pickup and the final price, and only then do you book. No payment is taken on this website.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I took the Mkesha Safaris Gombe National Park Chimpanzee Tour in December 2025, and it was an unqualified success.

I saw a large group of chimpanzees up close and was able to take a substantial number of photographs, many of which turned out to be excellent. We followed the chimps through three different areas, including a large fruiting tree where they fed contentedly for quite some time. Watching the young ones frolic and swing from the branches—occasionally falling to the ground, jumping back up, and repeating the process—was endlessly entertaining.

The tour began with an on-time hotel pickup, followed by a speedboat ride of about an hour along the coast to the Gombe National Park visitor center. I mentioned to my guide, Samjee, that I enjoy bird photography, and he went out of his way to accommodate this interest. Along the way he spotted several Palm-nut Vultures—large, impressive birds—and stopped for as long as I wanted so I could get good photographs. On the return trip we encountered about twenty of these vultures, including several perched close together. With careful positioning of the boat and a great deal of patience, I was able to capture many high-quality photos of these magnificent birds in flight. I also took dozens of excellent photographs of flying cormorants.

We visited Jane Goodall’s former home, where I had the opportunity to speak with the resident director of the Gombe Stream Research Center, which was an unexpected and memorable highlight.

The tour also included a delicious lunch. Overall, this was a superbly organized and rewarding experience, and I would highly recommend the Mkesha Safaris Gombe National Park Chimpanzee Tour—especially for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.

We could arrange a trip to Gombe Stream National Park on a very short notice (the afternoon before the trip), and somebody came to our hotel that afternoon to arrange the things with us (time, preferences in food, etc.). The day itself, everything was arranged very well and we did not have any hiccups. At the end, we could also relax at the lakeside and give a time for the boat back.

The guides were very professional and knowledgeable.
We got to see blue monkeys, Colobus monkeys and other forest animals.
